Why is Living Coral the Color of the Year for 2019? Pantone, the self-proclaimed global authority on color, picks a new color each year based on socioeconomic conditions, fashion trends, new technologies, and trends in the realms of lifestyle, art, music, travel, and of course, social media (CNN). In 2019, Pantone thought it was the appropriate time to turn to nature and its beautiful colors as media and technology are ever encroaching on our daily lives.
Before cactus and succulent motifs were prevalent in gift and interiors, we were seeing prickly pear and cactus fruit trends in food and flavors. Nopales, pads of the prickly pear cactus used in Mexican cuisine, was a key flavor trend in 2015 and inspired our perfumers as they created Desert Cactus. Our perfumers experimented with many fruity and floral combinations with the fresh and green cactus flower scent. Tulip and rhubarb were the perfect pairing for the freshness of the cactus, and the earthy vetiver grounded the fragrance with a nod to the dry earthiness of the desert. To make sure the fragrance complimented the emerging trend of watery green florals and light natural elements, we monitored emerging fine fragrances incorporating a pear note with similar fragrance elements. This helped us confirm that the fruity notes our perfumers used in Desert Cactus would help create the perfect atmosphere for any space in 2019.
Desert Cactus is a vibrant fragrance that embodies an oasis of tart crispness, stirred with elusive florals and earthy warmth. This scent is 3 years in the making, and is now launching at just the right time to complement bohemian cactus trends as well as the Pantone color of the year, Living Coral.
